This is a complex administrative and consultative work affecting the operations of an essential department within a large state mental health hospital relating to the assessment, treatment and discharge of residents.

Manages all levels of staff in the department by acting as hiring authority, reviewing or conducting performance evaluations, directing work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization.
Monitors all aspects of service delivery assuring management excellence through best practices, service integration and therapeutic interventions to support facility strategic objectives, including customer satisfaction and treatment excellence and efficiency.
Monitors leave and attendance, assures coverage in all operational units and plans for best use of employee resources.

Develops policies and procedures, coordinates department activities with other departments and units, maintains effective communication with subordinate and superior staff, represents Social Services on hospital wide committees, task forces and program planning groups.
Represents the hospital in community based meetings and planning groups, and ensures continuity of care through the implementation and monitoring of resident discharge procedures in association with the Care Coordination Unit.
Develops guidelines for effective program and service delivery.

Encourages management and treatment excellence through participation in Quality Management processes, continuous quality improvement projects, and through tracking of data for unit summary of performance and other critical issues to be determined in conjunction with the AIS for Programs.

Conducts training of employees in treatment and case management approaches, motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work and develops or provides effective internship and licensing supervision programs coordinating with appropriate universities or state boards.

Provides consultation to staff and other employees and groups in interpretation of psychosocial assessment and history data, current treatment interventions and appropriate case planning and management.

Will be available to assist other staff with transportation on recreational outings, escort individuals to appointments for prosthetic devices or hospital wide celebrations, and transport individuals to the community for discharge readiness appointments or actual discharge placement.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
